How I Learnt To Readjust My Mindset. Why I Looked At Breast Cancer From A Different Angle.
Healing is not just about addressing physical ailments; it’s about transforming the way we think, feel, and connect with ourselves. When I embarked on my healing journey, I quickly realized that a strong, resilient mindset was just as crucial as any treatment. It required me to dig deep, question my inner dialogue, and confront the beliefs that had kept me stuck for so long.
The Battle Between Heart and Mind
One of the first challenges I faced was aligning my heart and mind. My heart, full of hope, would whisper, You’re going to be okay. But my mind would shout back with doubt and fear: Do you know how hard this will be? Do you know how much pain you’ll go through? These conflicting messages left me feeling paralyzed.
I had to address that constant chatter in my mind because it was causing more harm than good. Fear thrives on uncertainty, and every time my mind fixated on the worst-case scenario, it drained my energy. To move forward, I needed to change my thought patterns and focus on what was possible, not what was terrifying.
Shifting Perspectives: From “Why Me?” to “Why Not Me?”
One of the most transformative steps in my journey was shifting my perspective. Instead of asking, Why did this happen to me? I began to ask, Why not me? What made me immune to life’s challenges? This shift wasn’t about dismissing my pain but understanding that challenges are often opportunities for growth.
I also reframed my situation as something happening for me, not to me. This subtle yet powerful change in perspective allowed me to see my diagnosis as a lesson, a wake-up call to reconnect with my true self and reexamine my life.
A Transformative Journey to Peru
To truly heal from the inside out, I knew I needed to take a step back from my daily routine and dive deep into self-discovery. This led me to Peru, where I spent two weeks working with experienced teachers using plant medicine from the Amazon.
This wasn’t a vacation or a retreat—it was intense, soul-searching work. Twice a day, I drank a specially brewed medicine, and the teacher’s wife applied plant-based remedies directly to my breast. The clean diet, serene jungle setting, and powerful plant medicine helped clear my mind, making space for healing and self-reflection.
During this time, I realized how much emotional baggage I had been carrying. Resentment, fear, and even attachment to things I didn’t want to lose were weighing me down. Letting go of these emotions wasn’t easy, but it was necessary.
Finding Clarity and Breaking Down Masks
In Peru, I began to see the masks I had been wearing for years. I had been a people-pleaser, always trying to meet others’ expectations at the expense of my own happiness. I had told myself that my success—a thriving business, luxurious holidays, and a seemingly perfect life—was enough, but deep down, I wasn’t happy.
A cleansing downpour greeted me as I arrived in the jungle, washing away the outer facade and signaling the start of my inner transformation. Through plant medicine work, I heard a profound message: You did this. You fix it. These words weren’t about blame but empowerment. They reminded me that I held the key to my healing.
The Importance of a Strong Mindset
One of the most valuable lessons I learned came from my doctor, who emphasized the importance of a strong mindset. She shared that many women give up before they even begin their healing journey because they lack belief in their own strength. Her words solidified my commitment to cultivating a resilient, hopeful outlook.
To reinforce this mindset, I began journaling daily during my time in Peru. I documented my thoughts, feelings, and insights, which helped me process my emotions and understand the patterns that had kept me stuck.
Seeing the Bigger Picture
A shift in mindset is like stepping back from a blurry image on a large screen. When you’re too close, everything feels overwhelming. But when you step back, the details come into focus, and you can see the beauty of the whole picture. This realization helped me approach life with clarity and intention.
Moving Forward With Authenticity
Returning from Peru, I stripped away the masks I had worn for so long. I began embracing my authentic self, prioritizing self-love, and letting go of the need to please others. I understood that healing wasn’t just about physical health but about aligning my mind, body, and spirit.
Through meditation, journaling, and continued self-reflection, I found a new sense of peace and purpose. This journey taught me that healing begins within, and the most significant transformations happen when we take the time to reconnect with ourselves.
If you’re on your healing journey, take a moment to step back, look within, and realign your perspective. Healing is not about perfection—it’s about progress.
